Banks, pension providers, the council, DVLA, insurers, utilities. The binder lists every organisation with the account numbers, and the guide says which calls come first.

The calls nobody plans for
After a death, a family usually has to contact the register office, the GP, banks, pension providers, the council, insurers, utility firms and more. Each one asks for details that are hard to find in a hurry.

Direct debits and subscriptions carry on until each company is told. Families often find them months later on a statement.
With the binder: a list of regular payments, so each one can be stopped.
“What’s the policy number?” is the first question in most call queues. Without it, the call ends and starts again another day.
With the binder: reference numbers next to every organisation.
Families do get there in the end. The binder means those weeks are spent with each other, not on hold to a call centre looking for a policy number.
How the guide is organised
Three stages, in the order families meet them. The binder holds the details. The Family Handover Guide walks through each stage and points to the right binder page.
Stage 1 · The first week
Register the death, tell the government once, and keep the home and money safe.
Register within 5 days in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, or 8 days in Scotland.
Stage 2 · Weeks 2 to 8
Work through the organisations, one call at a time, with every account number to hand.
There is no single legal deadline for these calls, but money keeps leaving accounts until each one is told.
Stage 3 · Month 3 onwards
Apply for probate (or confirmation in Scotland), sort any Inheritance Tax, pay debts and share out the estate.
Any Inheritance Tax must be paid by the end of the sixth month after the death, or interest is charged.

How it works
Your files arrive by email and on screen as soon as you pay.
Type into the PDF or print and write by hand. The quick start takes 15 minutes. Leave out anything that doesn't apply.
The binder only helps if someone knows where to find it.
Print only what you need. The Start Here page lists the pages to print first. Nobody needs to print every page.
Not sure which pack?
Optional. Nothing you tap here is saved or sent anywhere.
Checked, not guessed
Every page shown on this site is a real page from the files you download. No stock photos.

Questions
No. It’s a digital download: PDF and Excel files. You fill them in on screen or print them at home. Nothing is posted to you.
No. The Start Here page lists the pages to fill in first. Print only the sections that apply to you, or don’t print at all and type into the PDF.
Yes. The Life Admin Binder has a fillable A4 version you can type into with a free PDF reader such as Adobe Acrobat Reader. The spreadsheets open in Microsoft Excel.
No. It’s an organiser that helps you write things down and a guide to the usual steps, based on official guidance. It doesn’t replace a will, a Lasting Power of Attorney or advice from a solicitor. For a complex estate, speak to a solicitor.
Yes. It’s written for England and Wales first, with notes wherever Scotland or Northern Ireland differ. For example, Scotland uses “confirmation” rather than probate, and has an 8-day limit to register a death rather than 5.
A will covers who inherits. The binder covers everything else your family needs to find: accounts, pensions, contacts, password hints, policies and wishes. They work together.
Most of the binder is everyday life admin that helps right now: GP details, medicines, insurance renewals, bills. It’s just as useful if you’re in hospital for a week as for anything more serious. Think of it as a kindness to the people you love.
Straight after you pay, you’ll see a download link and get it by email too. Download the files to your computer and keep a backup.
Email [email protected] within 30 days and we’ll refund you in full. No reason needed. Refund policy
Buy with your own email address, then forward the download email to them, or print the Start Here pages and give them in a folder. A short note helps: “Fill in what you're happy to, when you're ready. Then tell me where it's kept.”
You can also fill it in together, one section at a time.
